A downloadable Controller Type for the 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator was added today.

This renames the LEDs and hides controls that don't actually exist on the device.

Possibly this is due for a refresh. I have the 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator with the drivers installed (MacBook Pro running Yosemite) so it runs standard applications like google earth.

I loaded the CMate file for this device, but ControllerMate doesn't see the SpaceNavigator.

If ControllerMate doesn't see the SpaceNavigator at all, then the cmate file won't do anything. That sounds like a conflict with the driver for the SpaceNavigator.

After Mavericks there seems to be no way to use the 3dconnexion devices with or without drivers. Either CM won't see it (with drivers) or OSX insists moving the mouse cursor (without drivers).

However Mountain Lion without 3dconnexion drivers works a charm.

I've been meaning to see if the HID kext could be transplanted in a later OSX...

This still seems to be an issue. I'm on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 and
ControllerMate 4.10.2.

I had installed the 3dware drivers. Then coming upon this thread
uninstalled, and restarted.

Opened up Space Navigator. Now the Space Navigator HID device doesn't
show up under controller either (it did before uninstalling 3dware
drivers). Both the hid device and Cmate device seems to show under
Controller Information but not in the controller palette. Interestingly
I clicked the highlight active controls option and manipulated the
space navigator and it moves the mouse/cursor as if it were a mouse.
I'm not sure what is handling it, the os, controller mate or something
else.

Bummer. Guess I'll reinstall the 3dware drivers and use that for now. I
would love to be able to use Controller Mate though, the 3dconnexion
drivers offer somewhat limited abilities.

Here's a screenshot. Pardon me for the size.

After uninstalling the 3dware drivers, it may be necessary to reset ControllerMate's information about the device. To do that, unplug the device, delete the item(s) in the Controller Information list in ControllerMate, then reattach the device.

A device may appear differently when its driver is loaded than when it is not.
