Keyboard Reconfiguration
This example will demonstrate how to reconfigure the keys of a Logitech MX5000 keyboard.
The keys on the MX5000 keyboard are arranged in a manner that is typically found on PC keyboards — not as they are found on Apple Macintosh computer keyboards. From left to right along the near edge of the keyboard, the MX5000’s keys are:
CTRL—START—ALT—Space Bar—ALT—MENU—CTRL
This example will redefine these keys to behave like the keys in the same positions on an Apple keyboard:
Control—Option—Command—Space Bar—Command—Option—Control
To redefine keyboard keys, create a Controller Configuration for the keyboard. Controller Configurations can be created for keyboard and mouse devices that are shown in the Palette window with a
over their icons. To create a Controller Configuration, drag the keyboard icon from the Palette window to the Directory panel in the Editor window.
When a Controller Configuration is selected in the Editor window, the Keyboard Buttons, Mouse Buttons, and Mouse Acceleration of the selected device will appear in the Workspace. For keyboard devices, the Mouse Buttons and Mouse Acceleration tabs will often be omitted.
To change the definition of a keyboard key, select the desired key in the table and then change the Behavior popup menu below the table to the desired behavior.
To configure the MX5000 keyboard to behave like an Apple keyboard, assign the following behavior to the following keys:
Key (Control) |
Behavior |
|
Keypad LeftAlt |
— |
Keypad Left GUI |
Keypad Left GUI |
— |
Keypad LeftAlt |
Keypad RightAlt |
— |
Keypad Right GUI |
Keyboard Application |
— |
Keypad RightAlt |
In addition, the MX5000 keyboard creates an extra “Keyboard Num Lock and Clear” event when one of the keypad keys is pressed or released. To eliminate these extra keyboard events, change the behavior of the “Keyboard Num Lock and Clear” key to “None”.
